Rondel armor is a type of medieval body armor made of steel or other metals. It gets its name from the round plates or "rondels" that protect specific areas of the body, particularly the armpits and other vulnerable areas. The plates are often connected together using straps or rivets, and additional layers of leather or padded fabric may be added for extra protection and comfort. Rondel armor was most commonly worn by knights and other heavily armored soldiers during the 14th and 15th centuries, and it was particularly useful during jousting tournaments and other combat in which the use of lances was common. However, the armor's intricate design and high level of protection also made it heavy and cumbersome, and it eventually fell out of use as more streamlined types of armor were developed.
